Conditions for Alcoa Anglesea power station demolition

2 Oct 2018

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has issued an approval for short term dust and noise emissions to be generated during the demolition of the Anglesea power station.

The approval is subject to stringent conditions and requires that the controlled implosion occurs only during strict weather conditions, including southerly winds so that dust is directed away from residential areas.

Alcoa must conduct dust monitoring south of the power station in the residential area and release the results on the same day of the implosion.

Asbestos monitoring must also be undertaken at locations around the perimeter of the exclusion zone.

An EPA officer will observe the implosion to ensure all the requirements of the approval are met.

Alcoa will be required to apply large amounts of water to the work site to minimise dust emissions.

EPA required that Alcoa inform the community of its plans, and Alcoa held drop in community information sessions on Wednesday 26 September and Sunday 30 September, which were attended by EPA and WorkSafe representatives.

The approval expires on October 25.
