The independent chairperson’s report from the community conference on Yumbah Aquaculture Ltd‘s (Yumbah) proposal for an onshore abalone farm at Bolwarra, near Portland, is now available.
The report records the issues discussed at the December 19 conference, known as a Section 20B Conference, which was attended by more than 160 residents, and in the submissions, and includes the Chair’s recommendations.
EPA must consider these recommendations in the assessment of the proposal and in deciding the application.
Following the recommendations EPA has requested further information from Yumbah including:
- consideration of greater separation from sensitive receptors;
- modelling of potential impacts; and
- management of biosecurity risks
Once provided, this information will be available on the Engage Victoria website.
A works approval is required from EPA for any waste management activities that have the potential for significant environmental impacts.
