Bunyip State Forest fires impacting air quality

2 Mar 2019

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) advises that air quality in and around Bunyip State Forest may be unhealthy for sensitive groups due to elevated levels of PM2.5 particles.

Bushfires in the Bunyip State Forest have grown significantly and are producing a lot of smoke.

Currently smoke will be moving between Pakenham and Warragul, with plumes headed over East Gippsland around to Phillip Island. Later this evening, winds may move the smoke more toward Melbourne, most likely around Cranbourne, Mornington Peninsula and potentially as far as Phillip Island.

If you can smell smoke, please note:

  • Smoke can affect people's health.
  • People with pre-existing health problems, heart or lung conditions (including asthma), children, pregnant women and older people are more sensitive to the effects of breathing in smoke.
  • People with existing heart or lung conditions (including asthma) should follow the treatment plan advised by the doctor.

Health information:

  • If you need medical advice for exposure to smoke, seek medical advice or call Nurse on Call on 1300 606 024.
  • Anyone experiencing wheezing, chest tightness and difficulty breathing should call Triple Zero (000).
