Community conference called on Laverton North Waste to Energy Plant

29 Oct 2019

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) will host a community conference on Recovered Energy Australia Pty Ltd’s proposal to construct a waste to energy plant in Laverton North.

EPA is assessing a works approval application for the proposed plant at 28 Alex Fraser Drive, which would process 200,000 tonnes a year of residual municipal solid waste.

The proposal utilises a modular system of vertical rotary thermal gasifiers, and is classified under legislation as an A08 (Waste to energy) and K01 (Power station) scheduled premises.

Following a public consultation period, EPA received more than 30 submissions on the plan which proposes to deliver approximately 15MW of electricity to the grid.

The community conference, and the independent Chair’s report, will form part of EPA’s assessment of the proposal.

DETAILS:

The conference will be held on 6 November 2019 from 6pm.

  • to discuss potential steps to resolve community and stakeholder concerns, including ideas about possible conditions if the works approval is issued
  • to provide an update on the next steps in the application process.
