Charter of Consultation open for comment

18 Sep 2019

Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is encouraging community members to have their say in the development of a Charter of Consultation.

From 1 July 2020, EPA will be operating under a new Environment Protection Act. The new Act introduces a more flexible and risk-based approach, puts a stronger focus on prevention of pollution, and improves public transparency.

One requirement of the new Act is to develop a Charter of Consultation, which will provide guidance on the key opportunities and avenues within EPA processes for public participation.

EPA has created a Draft Charter to lead the discussion, which is available for public comment online at https://engage.vic.gov.au/epa-charter-consultation

The Draft Charter describes the purpose of consultation at EPA, the context in which it occurs, EPA’s commitment to consultation, and outlines specific consultation processes relating to key regulatory activities and decisions.

EPA is seeking a wide range of views and perspectives to make the Charter as practical and responsive to the needs of the community as possible.

Consultation will be open until Sunday, 10 November with the finalised Charter of Consultation to be released in mid-2020.
