Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is encouraging members of the community to provide feedback on new information it has received on Landfill Operations’ (Cleanaway) works approval application to extend its landfill at Ravenhall.
EPA issued the company with a formal notice request for further information – under section 22(1) of the Environment Protection Act 1970 – on 7 September 2016 as part of its ongoing assessment of Cleanaway’s application.
The additional information request included information about existing groundwater conditions, side wall landfill cell designs and the topographic profile of the site after waste had settled.
EPA’s Development Assessments Manager, Tim Faragher said following ongoing discussions with Cleanaway, EPA had now received the additional information that met the requirements of the notice.
“The community is invited to review and provide any other feedback they may have on the new information only by 8 January 2017,” he said.
“The additional information will enable EPA to continue its thorough assessment of Cleanaway’s works approval application.”
“This consultation process only relates to the works approval application and is independent of the recent Planning Panel Hearing. Any updated submissions on this newly received information should only be sent to EPA.”
Cleanaway’s proposal requires both planning permit approval and works approval to proceed. The Minister for Planning will make a decision on the planning permit application and EPA will make a decision on the works approval application.
