Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) will assess a works approval application it has received from SELX Operations Pty Ltd to construct and operate a saleyard at Mortlake.
In its application, SELX Operations proposes the saleyard will have an annual design throughput of 200,000 cattle and will be located at the corner of Hamilton Highway and Connewarren Lane, Mortlake, 3272.
The proposal needs both planning approval (from council) and EPA approval. The works approval application and planning permit applications will be jointly advertised in the Herald Sun, Mortlake Despatch and the Warrnambool Standard this week.
These applications are open for public comment until 14 November 2016.
There will also be a joint public open house information session between 2-8pm on Monday 7 November 2016 at Mortlake Council Chambers, Jamieson Street, Mortlake.
During this time, residents and interested persons are invited to drop-in and view information about the joint process, the saleyard’s applications and how to get involved in the process. Council, EPA and the applicant will be in attendance.
An overview presentation of the proposal will be held at 2.30 pm, 4 pm and 7 pm during the drop-in session.
Works approvals are issued by EPA Victoria under the Environment Protection Act 1970. They are required for industrial and waste management activities that have the potential for significant environmental impact.
